Police have recovered three bodies from the Benapole border area in Jashore.

The bodies were found yesterday (18 December) near the Ichamati River in the Panchbhulat and Putkhali border.

The deceased were identified as Sabu Hossain (35), son of late Arif Hossain from Dighir Par village under Benapole Land Port Police Station; Jahangir Hossain (36), son of late Yunus Ali Mollah from Kagojpur village; and Sakibul Hossain (22), son of Jamal Dhali from Dighir Par, Benapole.

According to the police, Jahangir Hossain's body was recovered from the Ichamati River bank near the Bhandari Mor area, 30 yards inside Bangladesh's border, with the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel.

Police said that on Tuesday night, around 1:30am, Sabu Hossain was found severely injured by locals. He was taken home by his family but later died from his injuries. Upon receiving the information, the police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.

Later in the afternoon, the body of Sakibul Hossain was found floating in the Ichamati River. The police also recovered his body and sent it to the Jashore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Subedar Solimullah and Bachchu Mia of BGB's Putkhali and Panchbhulat camps confirmed the incidents and said the bodies bore visible signs of injury.

However, the authorities have not yet determined who was responsible for the deaths.

Nishat Al Nahian, assistant superintendent of Ppolice (ASP) of Navaron Circle, said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
