Police disperse protesting RMG workers from Press Club area

Police have dispersed protesting workers of A-One and Tazreen Fashion garments from National Press Club area early today as they did not take permission from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
A large number of policemen baton charged the workers while they were asleep at around 5 am on Monday, the protesters claimed.
Workers and their families, injured in 2012's Tazreen fire have been protesting in front of the National Press Club demanding to meet their several demands, including amending the compensation act to provide respectable compensation to injured workers.

Sheikh Muhammad Shamim, assistant commissioner (AC) of Ramna zone told The Business Standard that police were instructed to follow the guidelines as DMP recently asked all to take prior permission for holding any procession or rally.
Rehana Akter, a former worker from Tajreen told The Business Standard, "At around 4:30am policemen suddenly came to the Press club area and started baton charge on us. After a few minutes, police forced us to leave the place. Some of us sustained severe injuries and took treatment at Mitford hospital," she added.
The protestors will hold a press briefing at 12pm at Kataban area in the capital.
