Police constable who dispersed protesters without using violence gets President's medal

Police Constable Riyad Hossain, who recently went viral for dispersing protesters near the Secretariat without using violence, has been honoured with the President's Police Medal (PPM).
The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard on 27 March.
"In recognition of his innovative and intelligent policing strategy in maintaining public order by showing respect for citizens in 2025, Police Officer Riyad Hossain has been awarded the President's Police Medal (PPM-Service)," reads the notification.
On 14 February, a group of protesters were marching towards the Secretariat.
Without charging them with a baton, Riyad hit nearby electric poles and the ground to disperse the protesters.
He also pretended to hit the protesters without actually hitting them.
As the video of the incident went viral on social media, many people praised Riyad's tactic.
