PM orders arrest of Barguna killers

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the authorities concerned to arrest the killers of Barguna youth, who was mercilessly hacked to death in broad daylight.

“The prime minister is shocked by the gruesome murder. She has ordered law enforcers to arrest the culprits by any means,” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told the press at his Secretariat office on Thursday.

Rifat Sharif, 22, a resident of Barguna Sadar upazila, was hacked to death by four miscreants in front of the Barguna College on Wednesday afternoon. His wife tried to save him desperately as the attackers kept chopping her husband indiscriminately.

The entire incident was caught on a surveillance camera.

Rifat’s father filed a case with the local police station on Thursday morning. Police have arrested a suspect for his alleged involvement in the incident.

The grisly murder stirred the social media, flaring up huge protest and criticism all around.

On Thursday, the High Court ordered the state counsel to inform it what steps have been taken against the perpetrators.

“Where the law and order of the country has gone! Bystanders witnessed it but no one dared to protest! Where is the society heading? We all are shocked,” the court expressed its remorse.
