PM backs army modernisation, expects higher global standing
PM Tarique Rahman said continuous training and modern technology are essential to maintaining the Army's operational readiness.
Prime Minister today (13 July) expressed confidence that the Bangladesh Army will earn greater international recognition, prestige and professional distinction in the years ahead, pledging the government's full support for enhancing its capabilities and accelerating its modernisation.
"I believe the Bangladesh Army will earn greater international recognition, prestige and professional distinction in the years ahead," he said.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing Army personnel after visiting the Bangladesh Army's summer field exercise at East Rahmatpur in Babuganj, Barishal.

He assured Army personnel that the government will extend all necessary support to strengthen the Army's capabilities, modernise its equipment and enhance its reputation both at home and abroad.
During the visit, Tarique Rahman toured the sprawling jungle training area on foot, observing soldiers carrying out combat drills and tactical exercises under simulated battlefield conditions, said a release issued by the PM's Press Wing.
He watched troops manoeuvre through dense woodland, take up operational positions and conduct field operations designed to improve combat readiness. Army officers briefed him on different aspects of the exercise and the force's operational preparedness.
The Prime Minister also observed the operation of an anti-drone multi-barrel defence system designed to detect and neutralise hostile drones. Officials explained the system's operational capabilities and its role in modern warfare.
Interacting with soldiers deployed in the exercise area, Tarique Rahman enquired about their training, duties and field experiences.
He also spent time sitting on the ground with Army personnel and shared a field meal prepared under simulated combat conditions, which included rice, lentils, mashed potato, shrimp and egg curry.
Addressing the troops, the Prime Minister said the Bangladesh Army remains a symbol of the country's independence and sovereignty and continued to enjoy the trust and confidence of the people.
He said the Army had repeatedly demonstrated professionalism, courage and patriotism in safeguarding national security, maintaining law and order and responding to national emergencies.
"The discipline, professionalism, sacrifice and dedication of our soldiers have earned the Army a special place in the hearts of the people," Tarique Rahman said.
He stressed the importance of maintaining high professional standards through continuous training, the adoption of modern technology and the highest level of operational preparedness.
Recalling his personal connection with the armed forces, the Prime Minister said he had grown up in an Army family.
"I always enjoy coming to Army camps. Spending time with soldiers reminds me of my childhood and brings back many memories," he said.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, Defence Adviser to the Prime Minister Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Military Secretary to the Prime Minister Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq and other senior Army officers accompanied the Prime Minister during the visit.
