Parties must be united for national interest: Information minister

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Thursday called upon the political parties to be united for the sake of national interest.
He made the call at the graduation ceremony of Young Leadership Fellowship Program organised by Democracy International at a hotel in Dhaka.
“Disagreement might exist among various political parties, but they have to remain united for the betterment of the country. Isolation among parties can not accepted,” said the minister.

At least 30 young leaders hailing from 10 districts got a 4-month training over democracy and good governance. They were selected from Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party.
At the program, senior leaders from three parties also raised their voice in support of national unity for the betterment of the country.
While addressing promising leaders from rival parties, the minister said the training has also showcased the beauty of democracy as rival leaders participated in the training.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is respectful towards opposition parties. Though the number of opposition parties’ lawmakers is minimal in the parliament but we like to consider their opinion,” the minister pointed out.
Present at the event, BNP Standing Committee Member Selima Rahman said: “The motto of democracy is that various political parties have to work together for upholding the national interest.”
Jatiya Party Chairman's International Affairs Adviser Major (Retd) Ashraf ud Doula echoed with other speakers, saying: “There is no alternative to the united approach for the interest of the nation.
