Pahela Baishakh: DU Fine Arts Faculty scrambles to recreate 'Face of Fascism' float, 'Pigeon of Peace' completed

The floats representing the "Face of Fascism" and the "Pigeon of Peace", which were torched by an unknown youth yesterday (12 April), are being recreated at Dhaka University's (DU) Faculty of Fine Arts for the Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
Organisers expressed hope that the "Face of Fascism" will be completed by tonight (13 April), while the "Pigeon of Peace" was repaired and completed this afternoon.
The two floats prepared by the Fine Arts faculty for Pahela Baishakh were burnt by the fire in the early hours yesterday. The "Face of Fascism" was completely destroyed while the "Pigeon of Peace" was partially damaged.

The arson took place a day after the Faculty of Fine Arts announced that this year's traditional "Mongol Shobhajatra" would be renamed "Anondo Shobhajatra". The theme of this year's celebrations is "Unity of Noboborsha, End of Fascism."
CCTV camera footage has shown that a youth wearing a surgical mask climbed over the boundary wall of the faculty and set fire to the two floats.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police today said that it has identified the suspect and expects to make an arrest before the Anondo Shobhajatra tomorrow morning (14 April).
DU yesterday filed a case at Shahbagh Police Station against unidentified leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League.
It also formed a five-member committee to investigate the matter.
Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla New Year, will be celebrated tomorrow (14 April) in the capital and across the country.
