Orion Pharma Ltd and the Gynaecological Oncology Society of Bangladesh (GOSB) have honoured doctors who have recently earned advanced medical degrees such as FCPS (Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons) and MS (Master of Surgery) in gynaecological oncology.

The felicitation ceremony took place at the Palm View Restaurant in the Army Golf Club, Dhaka, on Monday.

GOSB President Prof Sabera Khatun presided over the event, with Md Saidur Rahman, secretary of the Health Services Division, attending as the chief guest.

"Many patients go abroad; that is a reality. However, it is not guaranteed that they receive better service even abroad. If better treatment can be provided within the country, it will be more beneficial for us," Sabera Khatun said, assuring that issues faced by physicians in this department would be addressed.

Zareen Karim, managing director of Orion Pharma Ltd, said, "The majority of patients in gynaecology and gynae oncology come from underprivileged rural areas. We need more doctors practising in the speciality of gynae oncology who can offer consultation and treatment in these rural and underprivileged areas."

"We must work together to raise awareness so that gynaecologic patients receive regular checkups, early treatment, and vaccinations. The costs of diagnostics and treatment medications should be made affordable," she added.

Leaders of GOSB and the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB) urged the new graduates to contribute to cancer treatment.

GOSB President Sabera Khatun said, "Gynecologic cancer patients in Bangladesh face the dual challenges of poverty and gender inequality. How many people in our society are willing to spend money on women? As a result, they are often neglected. We need funding, a supportive environment, and adequate manpower for their treatment."

Farhana Dewan, president of OGSB, addressed the fellows: "You are our pride, strength, and future vision. You will shape the future of the country in gynaecologic oncology, ensuring that patients no longer need to seek treatment abroad. For this, we must focus on developing ourselves."

At the same time, eminent doctors in this field urged the government to create more positions and enhance facilities for doctors in this specialty.

At the end of the programme, Orion Pharma gave a presentation to the physicians about the various medicines they have developed.
