1 killed, 8 injured in Chattogram fire
The fire originated from an electric short circuit, and six of the injured have been transferred to Dhaka for better treatment

An elderly woman was burned to death and eight other people, including two minor children, suffered injuries resulting from a fire, which broke out at a residence in Uttar Kattoli area of Chattogram city on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Peyara Begum, 65 while the injured are: Mizanur Rahman, 42, Saiful Islam, 25, Bibi Sultana, 36, Manha, 2, Maher, 8, Riaz, 22, Zahan, 21 and Sumaia, 18.
Enamul Haque, senior station manager of Agrabad Fire Station, said that the fire had originated at night from an electric short circuit at Mariam Building under Akbar Shah police station area.
When notified, a fire service team reached the spot around 11:55pm. However, according to Haque, the fire had been doused by the time they reached, adding that nine people were injured in the incident.
The injured were admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) early Monday, according to Inspector Jahirul Islam of CMCH police outpost.
Among the injured, Peyara succumbed to her injuries at the hospital at around 12 noon, said Dr Ali Zaman, assistant registrar of the Burn Unit.
The remaining six injured have been transferred to Dhaka for better treatment.
Chattogram District Administration has formed a 5-member probe committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate, Badiul Alam, to look into the incident.
The probe committee has been asked to submit their report within next seven days.
