Mrinal was suffering from various old-age complications including cardiac issues and diabetes. He was admitted to the hospital on June 18. Mrinal was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) later as his health condition deteriorated.

The death of Mrinal Bhattacharya has cast a shadow of mourning over the cultural arena in the port city.

Various cultural organisations, including Chittagong Shilpakala Academy and Udichi Shilpigoshthi, have mourned the death of the veteran musician.

Mrinal joined the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra as an artist during the Liberation War in 1971.
