Former law minister Shafique Ahmed passes away
His son said details regarding his namaj-e-janaja and burial will be announced later.
Former law minister and senior lawyer Barrister Shafique Ahmed has passed away today (12 April) at the age of 88.
His son, Barrister Mahbub Shafique, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard, saying he had long been suffering from illness. He was admitted to Bangladesh Medical University Hospital a few days ago and later taken to the intensive care unit (ICU).
He breathed his last at around 5:45pm.
Mahbub said details regarding his namaj-e-janaja and burial will be announced later.
Barrister Shafique Ahmed served as the minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs in the Awami League government from 2009 to 2014.
He was also a former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and a former vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council.
