Dr Shaikh Maqsood Ali remembered on 6th death anniversary
Tuesday, 25 August, marks the sixth death anniversary of Dr Shaikh Maqsood Ali, a former member of the Bangladesh Planning Commission and former civil servant.
Ali began his career as a lecturer in economics at the University of Dhaka in 1957 and joined the civil service in 1959, according to a press release.
Before retiring in 1993, he served as a member of the General Economics Division and the Industries and Energy Division of the Planning Commission.
He also served as secretary of the Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation, joint secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, Inland Water Transport and Aviation, founder rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre, director general of the National Institute of Public Administration, and director of the Project Implementation Bureau at the President's Secretariat.
While studying in the UK, Ali played a role in mobilising support for Bangladesh's independence.
His academic and professional work focused on poverty alleviation, integrated social mobilisation, South Asian values and pro-poor development. He also wrote for national and international publications.
His late wife, Dr Sofia Hasna Jahan Ali, was a professor of economics at the University of Dhaka.
Ali's family members requested relatives, friends and well-wishers to pray for the salvation of his departed soul.
