From now no need to file GD if NID lost: EC
EC’s National Identity Registration Wing Director (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Habibur Rahman said the commission took the decision today (4 September).
The Election Commission (EC) has decided that from now on, there will be no need to file a General Diary (GD) if the National Identity Card (NID) is lost.

He also added that a GD had to be filed earlier to retrieve the lost NID. The Commission has taken this decision to reduce public suffering, he said, adding that this decision was taken so that people can be assured of easier and faster services.
He said that this will reduce the suffering of citizens to a great extent.
The EC has disposed of 9,07, 662 NID correction applications in the first six months of 2025 under the crash program for the correction of National Identity Card (NID).
During this time, a total of 984,356 applications for NID correction were received by the EC.
