'Not even Dhaka traffic can stop UK-Bangladesh partnership': British envoy walks 2.3km amid congestion
British Deputy High Commissioner James Goldman was caught in Dhaka's notorious traffic congestion today (27 October) but turned the experience into a positive message about resilience and partnership.
"Not even the Dhaka traffic today can stop UK-Bangladesh partnership," Goldman wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
According to ASM Marjan Nur, climate and environment adviser at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the British High Commission, Goldman and Nur decided to abandon their car and walk about 2.3 kilometres from the Mohakhali expressway area to the Panthapath Pani Bhaban.
"James and I had an exciting walk today, ditching the car and security protocols on our way to the launch of new UK-Bangladesh climate projects," Nur said.
Dhaka commuters faced a double whammy of traffic misery today (27 October) as an accident on the Airport-bound lane of the Elevated Expressway compounded the severe gridlock already caused by the suspension of Metro Rail services, severely worsening traffic congestion across key areas of the capital, including Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Kakrail, and Shahbagh intersections.
The suspension forced thousands of commuters onto the roads, leading to visible gridlock across major routes connecting Mirpur, Tejgaon, and central Dhaka.
