Noab, Editors' Council to hold journalists' rally on 17 Jan demanding justice for Prothom Alo, Daily Star attacks
As part of the preparations for the protest rally, a meeting will be held on 31 December, at 3pm on the 10th floor of the Prothom Alo office.
The Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh (Noab) and the Editors' Council today (29 December) announced a journalists' rally on 17 January in protest against the recent arson attacks and vandalism on Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. The association demands bringing those responsible for the attacks to justice, reads a press release.
The rally will be held at 10am on 17 January at the auditorium of the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) complex in the capital.
An attack was carried out on the country's leading newspapers, Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, on the night of 18 December. The attackers vandalised the offices of the two newspapers, looted property and set parts of the premises on fire.
On the same night, Nurul Kabir, editor of New Age and president of the Editors' Council, was harassed when he went to the front of The Daily Star building after receiving news of the attack. Incidents of chaos and terrorist activities were also reported at Chhayanaut, Udichi and various places across the country.
In protest against these incidents, Noab and the Editors' Council have announced a joint protest rally.
As part of the preparations for the protest rally, a meeting will be held on 31 December, at 3pm on the 10th floor of the Prothom Alo office. Concerned stakeholders have been requested to attend the meeting.
