No sharp weapons, fireworks allowed in Tazia processions on Ashura: DMP
“The entire Hossaini Dalan Imambara area will be under CCTV surveillance. The area will be swept both by dog squads and manual checks to prevent any untoward incident. Alongside uniformed police, plainclothes officers will also be deployed," DMP Commissioner Mostofa Kamal Uddin said.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced that no sharp weapons, including knives, machetes, swords, spears, lances, or sticks, as well as fireworks or firecrackers, will be allowed in Tazia mourning processions scheduled for 26 June on the occasion of Ashura.
DMP Commissioner Mostofa Kamal Uddin made the remarks this morning (16 June) at a coordination meeting held at the DMP headquarters conference room aimed at ensuring the smooth observance of Ashura programmes and Tazia processions.
He said all activities related to Ashura must be implemented in a coordinated manner to ensure smooth arrangements. He also stressed that no one should be allowed to create disorder or disrupt law and order.
"The entire Hossaini Dalan Imambara area will be under CCTV surveillance. The area will be swept both by dog squads and manual checks to prevent any untoward incidents. Entry points will be monitored through archways and metal detectors. Alongside uniformed police, plainclothes officers will also be deployed. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police will remain fully alert to ensure overall security," he added.
At the beginning of the meeting, Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a PowerPoint presentation.
