7 candidates cleared, 8 disqualified in Faridpur-1 constituency
According to Election Commission sources, candidates whose nominations have been rejected will be able to file appeals within the stipulated timeframe
Seven out of 15 candidates who submitted nomination papers for the Faridpur-1 constituency (Boalmari–Madhukhali–Alfadanga) have had their nominations declared valid, while eight were disqualified following scrutiny.
The scrutiny process was held today (4 January) at the conference room of the district administration, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md Kamrul Hasan Molla. Candidates, along with their supporters, were present during the proceedings.
The candidates whose nominations were declared valid are - Ilias Hossain Molla of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami; Khandaker Nasirul Islam of the BNP; Shah Md Abu Zafar of the National Democratic Front (NDF); independent candidate Md Abul Bashar Khan; Mufti Sharafat Hossain of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis; Sultan Ahmed Khan of the Jatiyo Party; and Muhammad Khalid Nasir of Bangladesh Congress.
The disqualified candidates include independent aspirants Md Hasibur Rahman Opu, Laila Arjuman Banu, Md Golam Kabir Mia, Md Arifur Rahman, Md Samsuddin Mia, Md Shahabuddin Ahmed, Sheikh Abdur Rahman Jiko, and Mrinmoy Biswas.
Additional Deputy Commissioners Md Sohrab Hossain, Ramananda Pal and Mintu Biswas, along with District Election Officer Tarek Ahmed, were also present during the scrutiny.
Earlier in the day, seven nominations were rejected and the remaining eight were temporarily suspended. However, candidates whose nominations were suspended were allowed to resubmit corrected documents by 4pm. Following resubmission, seven of those nominations were subsequently declared valid.
