No mega projects if BNP comes to power; investment will focus on education, human resources: Tarique
‘No other political party has presented a comprehensive plan for the future of Bangladesh except BNP,’ says the party’s acting chairman
If the BNP comes to power, it will refrain from undertaking mega projects, said the BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, arguing that such projects often facilitate corruption.
"We will not go for any mega projects because they lead to corruption. We will spend money on education and building skilled manpower. Gradually, we will also be able to strengthen our agricultural exports," he said while speaking at a meeting at the Krishibid Institute Bangladesh in Dhaka today (10 December).
Claiming that no other political party has presented a comprehensive plan for Bangladesh's future, he said, "Only the BNP has offered such a plan. We want to implement it."
He said BNP aims to build an education system that enables students to become proficient in English as well as a third language.
Tarique stressed that ensuring people's right to live with dignity is a fundamental responsibility of the state.
"Through the family card, we want to empower the women of this country gradually. Through this, we want to create a strong economic foundation," he added.
He further said that his party plans to recruit one lakh healthcare workers if voted to power, 80-85% of whom would be women.
The BNP leader added that effective population control measures would yield visible benefits within the next decade. Education, health, and sports ministries would work together throughout the year.
He also highlighted the party's plans to give increased emphasis to agricultural exports and to ensure adequate playgrounds in urban areas.
"There are no open fields in these suffocating cities. We will build playgrounds," he said.
