Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder has said there is no fear about food security as the government has sufficient food grains in stock.

"The government has sufficient food grains in stock...It is importing food grains to compensate for the damage caused to Aman paddy in the last flood. Besides, this time, there will be a bumper harvest of Boro paddy across the country, including the haors," he said while speaking at a farmers' rally at Ashtagram upazila of the district today.

"If everything goes well, the country will have a food surplus this year... The government is making relentless efforts to ensure that the country's farmers get fair prices for their crops," he remarked.

During the programme, the adviser wanted to know about the problems of the farmers while several farmers spoke about their irrigation problems, road crisis and lack of proper drinking water.

Subsequently he directed the Deputy Commissioner of the district to resolve these issues as an urgent basis.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Fauzia Khan presided over the function.

Among others, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, Ashtagram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dilshad Jahan, Ashtagram Agriculture Officer Avijeet Sarker were present on the occasion.

After the meeting, the adviser visited various Boro fields in the haor areas.
