Police have rescued a newborn baby from a dustbin in Patenga area of ​​Chattogram on Tuesday.

After providing with first-aid at Chittagong Medical College Hosptial, the baby was handed over to Chhoto Moni Nibash in Bayezid area.

Shafiul Alam, assistant sub-inspector of Patenga Police Station, told The Business Standard that they rescued the baby from the dustbin on the chairman lane of Khal Par Road in Patenga and sent it to the CMCH with help of a local woman.

"I filed a petition with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Usman Gani, seeking permission to keep the baby in Chhoto Moni Nibash of the Department of Social Services," he said, adding that the court later granted his plea.

Further action will be taken as per directions of the court, he mentioned.

Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan, in-charge of the CMCH Police Outpost, also confirmed the matter, saying Patenga police brought a newborn to the hospital for treatment. The baby was released from the hospital after treatment.

Baby Home, Popularly known as Chhoto Moni Nibash, is a facility of the Department of Social Service that takes care of unclaimed and abandoned babies up to 6 years of age. There are a total of six Baby Homes across the country.
