Benapole Customs House has introduced some measures for expediting cargo clearance and preventing duty evasion in export goods.

On Tuesday, Benapole Customs Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman issued an order containing 11 conditions from Benapole Customs House.

However, traders fear that this order will increase the difficulties for exporters and importers.

According to the new conditions, physical examination of shipments is mandatory for those containing goods worth more than $40,000 or over 20 thousand pieces of ready-made garments (such as shirts, pants, t-shirts, and underwear).

Physical examination refers to the process of opening the shipment and verifying whether the items inside match the declared goods.

The order also states that 12 types of imported goods have been categorised as sensitive and customs-risky. These include cosmetics, all types of fabrics, imitation jewelry, batteries, motor parts, tires and tubes, bicycle parts, electronics, and medical equipment. Shipments of these goods will also undergo physical inspection.

Additionally, the customs commissioner has instructed relevant officers to regularly inspect and review the ASYCUDA World System to verify shipments of high-risk institutions and goods.
