Navy rescues 16 fishermen after boat drifts in Bay of Bengal
The fishermen were stranded for three days after their boat’s engine broke down while they were fishing off the coast of Bagerhat.
The Bangladesh Navy rescued 16 fishermen and their disabled fishing boat after it drifted in the Bay of Bengal for three days amid rough seas and adverse weather.
The fishermen were rescued yesterday (24 August) near the Mongla Fairway Buoy by Navy vessel BNS Kapotakkho, according to a press release issued by the Navy today (25 August).
The fishing boat, FB Al Amin, had left Sharankhola in Bagerhat on 19 August for fishing. Its engine broke down two days later, leaving the vessel stranded at sea.

The Navy received information about the drifting boat during a patrol on 23 August and launched a search operation. Despite rough waves and adverse weather, BNS Kapotakkho located the boat near the Mongla Fairway Buoy the following morning.
After rescuing the fishermen, Navy personnel provided them with food, drinking water and first aid.
The Navy later towed the disabled boat, with all 16 fishermen on board, to Hiron Point near the Sundarbans and handed them over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
The Navy said it regularly conducts patrols in the country's maritime and coastal areas to ensure maritime security and maintain law and order at sea.
The statement said the rescue operation also highlights the Navy's role in responding to fishing vessels and fishermen in distress in the Bay of Bengal.
