National election schedule in first half of Dec, CEC reiterates
In line with the interim government’s decision, the Election Commission (EC) plans to hold the general polls in the first half of February.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin reiterated that the schedule for the 13th national election will be announced in the first half of December.
He shared the information today (18 October) while speaking to reporters after a meeting with senior officials of law enforcement agencies and the local government division in Barishal.
In line with the interim government's decision, the Election Commission (EC) plans to hold the general polls in the first half of February.
The CEC said that the interim government has banned the activities of the Awami League, and the party will not be allowed to participate in the election until the ongoing trial against it is concluded.
"If the trial is completed before the election, the situation will be reviewed accordingly," he added.
Regarding the National Citizen Party's (NCP) demand for the Shapla as electoral symbol, the CEC said since the symbol is not listed with the EC, there is no legal scope to allocate that symbol. "We cannot act beyond the law."
He also assured that the EC will not come under the influence of any intelligence agency.
The meeting in Barishal was attended by Divisional Commissioner Mohammed Rayhan Kaosar, deputy commissioners from the division's six districts, and senior officials from the administration and law enforcement agencies.
Earlier in the morning, the CEC held a meeting with election officers from the Barishal division.
