National Cyber Security Agency urges public to report social media posts inciting violence
It said the government cannot directly take down social media posts and can only report violence-related content to the platforms concerned by presenting reasonable grounds.
The National Cyber Security Agency has urged the public to directly report social media posts that incite terrorism and violence via WhatsApp or email.
It made the announcement today (20 December) in a press release. The agency said complaints received through WhatsApp and email will be initially verified by it.
Following verification, the posts will be reported to the respective platforms through the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
It said the government cannot directly take down social media posts and can only report violence-related content to the platforms concerned by presenting reasonable grounds.
The press release also said hate speech that directly causes violence or calls for violence is a punishable offence under the National Cyber Security Ordinance, 2025.
The agency urged people to refrain from using social media as a tool for creating violence and called on citizens to remain aware of the safety of the country and the lives and property of its people.
