Nagorik Oikko President Manna's Bogura-2 nomination declared valid after appeal
Earlier, on 2 January, the returning officer concerned had rejected Mahmudur Rahman Manna's nomination papers during scrutiny.
Nagorik Oikko President Mahmudur Rahman Manna's nomination form for Bogura-2 has been declared valid by the Election Commission (EC) following an appeal.
The decision came after a hearing at the Election Commission today (11 January), chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.
Earlier, on 2 January, the returning officer concerned had rejected Manna's nomination papers during scrutiny.
Speaking to journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban after the hearing, Manna said he has contested polls from Bogura before, adding that the "mobocracy" carried out in opposition to him is a very ominous sign.
"The deputy commissioner [returning office], unsettled by the situation, referred the matter to the EC to manage it. Otherwise, there had been no grounds to cancel the nomination," he added.
Manna's nomination papers for Dhaka-18 had already been declared valid. As a result, he will be able to contest the upcoming general election from both Dhaka-18 and Bogura-2.
