Noakhali-6 MP Hannan Masud's convoy 'attacked by AL men' in Hatia
NCP leaders and activists alleged that more than 10 motorcycles were vandalised.
Noakhali-6 MP and National Citizen Party's (NCP) Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud and his supporters allegedly came under attack when his motorcade was targeted by a group of people during a visit to assess post-poll violence in areas under Noakhali's Hatia Upazila.
The attack, which took place in the Prokolpo Bazar area of the upazila's Chanandi Union around 12pm today (25 February), then led to a clash when NCP supporters fought back. At least 10 people from both sides were injured.
NCP leaders and activists alleged that more than 10 motorcycles were vandalised. They said the attackers were seen carrying sticks and locally made weapons.
They also alleged that the attack was led by local Awami League leaders Belal Majhi and Abdur Rahman.
Regarding the incident, Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Abu Tayyab Md Arif Hossain said multiple police teams have been deployed to the scene.
"We will not comment until we have full details of the incident," he added.
Md Yusuf, convener of Jatiya Jubo Shakti's Hatia upazila unit, alleged that the attack occurred in the presence of police, who remained silent.
He said, "Such an attack on an elected public representative is unacceptable."
Speaking about the incident, Hannan Masud said he would not leave the area until the alleged attacker, Belal Majhi, is arrested.
He further claimed, "Belal Majhi previously attacked a former MP in 2018."
