Mother accused of killing 24-day-old infant in Munshiganj
Meanwhile, the family and locals alleged that the mother Sharathi Mondol, 37, had thrown her newborn son into a pond, leading to his death.

A 24-day-old infant boy was found dead in a pond in Munshiganj's Sirajdikhan upazila this morning (25 July), police said.
The body was recovered around 9:30am from a pond in Shulpur village under the Keyain union.
Meanwhile, the family and locals alleged that the mother Sharathi Mondol, 37, had thrown her newborn son into a pond, leading to his death.
Confirming the incident, Sirajdikhan Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman told The Business Standard, "The mother is now in our custody for questioning. But she has not made any clear statement so far."
The OC added, "She appears to be mentally unstable. We are treating the matter with utmost seriousness."
According to the father, Dinesh Mondol, 44, the child was the youngest of their three children and was born just 23 days ago. "We had planned to name him today in accordance with Hindu traditions," Dinesh said.
"My wife suffers from mental health issues. I strongly suspect that she is the one who threw our son into the pond," he alleged. "I even heard her say, 'The baby slipped from my hands somehow,' but she hasn't been able to say anything else clearly."
According to locals, Sharathi had been staying at her father's home in Shulpur with her three children, including the newborn. Family members discovered the baby missing in the early hours of the morning.
Relatives, including the child's father, rushed to Shulpur around 6:30am. During a search around the house, they noticed the baby's blanket near the pond. A further search led to the discovery of the infant's body in the pond.
The baby was immediately taken to the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
