Mobile phone shop owners call nationwide shutdown tomorrow over NEIR reform

Mobile phone shop owners across the country will observe a day-long shutdown tomorrow (30 November,) demanding reforms to the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR), the Mobile Business Community Bangladesh (MBCB) announced today.
In a press release issued today (29 November), the association said traders are calling for an overhaul of the NEIR system, an end to alleged monopolistic syndicate practices, a fair and consistent tax policy, and permission for open import of mobile phones.
