Mirza Fakhrul’s brother attacked at BNP conference in Thakurgaon
His car was vandalised by agitated BNP activists following the announcement of the leadership election results

BNP's Thakurgaon district General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, also the brother of the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, was attacked while attempting to calm tensions over the announcement of leadership election results at the Baliadangi upazila BNP conference.
Mirza Faisal Amin came under attack around 8:30pm yesterday (12 July) at Samiruddin Smrity Degree College premises in Baliadangi upazila.
His car was vandalised by agitated BNP activists following the announcement of the results.
Law enforcement, including police and army personnel, arrived shortly after the incident and brought the situation under control.
One BNP activist, Ujjal, was injured while attempting to protect Faisal Amin and prevent the attack. He was rescued and admitted to Baliadangi Upazila Health Complex.
According to Baliadangi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shawkat Ali Sarkar, tensions had been brewing at the venue for nearly two hours over the delayed declaration of results from the BNP's upazila-level conference.
The polling officials reportedly hesitated to announce the outcome due to the unrest.
At around 8pm, Faisal Amin arrived at the venue from Thakurgaon town at the request of the organisers.
After he announced the results, a section of activists began throwing chairs in protest. His vehicle was damaged, with both the front and rear windshields broken during the attack.
Baliadangi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Palash Kumar Debnath, who was present during the incident, said the situation escalated quickly as they were leaving the third floor of the college building after announcing the results.
"We are working to identify those involved in the attack. The situation is currently under control," he said.
Rashed Ali, a former leader of the Swechhasebak Dal who was in the vehicle with Faisal Amin, said, "We somehow managed to get him out safely. He was taken away in another car. But due to poor lighting, we could not identify the attackers."
The biennial council of the Baliadangi upazila BNP began at 2:30pm with direct voting by councilors to elect new leadership.
Voting ended at 5pm, but tension rose during the counting process, particularly after a two-vote difference emerged in the race for president.
Following the delay and subsequent unrest, the results were eventually announced. Advocate Syed Alam was elected president, TM Mahbubur Rahman was named general secretary, and Ayan Chowdhury became organisational secretary.
