Heat wave may continue for two-three days

A mild heat wave is sweeping over the regions of Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Khulna – which may continue for the next two-three days.

Officials of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the temperature may rise slightly in the days to come as there are no clouds in the sky and the duration of the days is increasing.

The department's weather forecast, on Monday morning, said that for the next 24 hours a mild heat wave will sweep over the regions of: Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Khulna, Jashore, Kushtia, Patuakhali, Sitakunda, and Rangamati. And it may continue.

Abdul Mannan, a meteorologist at the department, told The Business Standard, "The magnitude of heat is high in the Noakhali and Chattogram regions."

"The heat wave may continue due to two reasons. Firstly, the sun has been heating the earth, vertically, since 21 March and the duration of days is increasing. The geographical reason is behind the rising heat. And the second reason is that there is no significant heat observant, such as a cyclone or rain, around us. There are not even enough clouds in the sky," he added.

The weather forecast said that the day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may rise slightly over the country in the next 24 hours

The possibility of rain in three days is minimal

The weather may remain dry with the partly cloudy sky over the country, said the forecast.

Abdul Mannan said, "The possibility of rain in the next two-three days is very small."

"Generally, during this time of the year, we face Norwesters [which are known as Kalboishakhi storms]. But this year, we do not see such storms, at the moment, that would fuel the heat wave."  

The country's maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 37.4 degrees Celsius in Jashore and the lowest one was recorded at 17.4 degrees Celsius in Rajarhat.
