Reducing migration costs a top priority: State Minister Nur
“We must treat them with compassion and sincerity,” said the state minister, also for the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
State Minister for the Ministry of Labour and Employment Nurul Haque Nur has underscored that reducing migration costs will be the government's top priority.
"Migration expenses must be reduced at any cost," he said at an introductory meeting with officials on his first working day, noting that many migrant workers are compelled to sell their jewelry and family land to finance their journey abroad.
"We must treat them with compassion and sincerity," said the state minister, also for the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
He emphasised the need to ensure courteous behavior and swift services for expatriates.
As most processes are now conducted online, he called for making airport support and help desks more effective to encourage outbound workers to send remittances through legal channels.
He also directed officials to ensure a respectful reception for migrant workers at airports.
The meeting was chaired by Ariful Haque Chowdhury, adviser for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment and Labour and Employment.
He said the public will closely observe the new government's performance during its first six months.
"We must work with speed and efficiency. Prepare a priority list of what can be implemented within the first six months," he instructed officials.
The minister further said that immediate actions aligned with the government's election manifesto should be identified and implemented promptly.
He directed officials to prepare a detailed country-wise and area-wise list of expatriates who have received assistance so far to ensure transparency and accountability.
