‘Government will not encourage any activity detrimental to Bangladesh’s image’

The government has said it will not encourage any activity by the expatriate workers that is detrimental to the image of Bangladesh and the excellent relations existing between Bangladesh and Vietnam.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, the ministry's attention has been drawn to some media reports and social media contents about the activities of a section of workers currently staying in Vietnam.

The press release informed that 17 people, who are sitting in front of the Bangladeshi embassy in Vietnam demanding immediate repatriation, has been interviewed by the embassy officials and Vietnam authorities.

It was communicated to the embassy by the Vietnam side that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam issued an order to the Vietnam police to investigate the brokers from Bangladesh and ensure security for foreign workers, the press release reads.

The embassy informed 17 people of the employer's commitment and assurance of the government of Vietnam but they are not cooperating.

The group is engaged in negative propaganda with the help of social media and some overseas TV channels, the press release stated.

The government is committed to upholding the rights of Bangladeshi migrant workers. Bangladesh Mission in Hanoi has been supporting the Bangladeshi nationals within the legal framework of Bangladesh and Vietnam, the press release said.

It is to be noted that all international flights to Vietnam have remained suspended since March 25, 2020.
