Metro bearing pad accident: Victim’s wife to get job at DMTCL
The managing director of DMTCL met Irin Akhter and her family members today to inquire about their condition
Irin Akhter Pia, wife of Abul Kalam Azad who was killed in the metro rail load-bearing pad accident last Sunday, will be offered a job at Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
Confirming the matter today (30 October), Md Zahidul Islam, private secretary to the DMTCL managing director, said Pia will be employed in a position Pia will be employed in a position that matches her educational qualifications.
"Today, the MD met Irin Akhter and her family members to inquire about their condition. It was decided that she would be offered a position at DMTCL, though the exact post is yet to be finalised," Zahidul Islam told The Business Standard.
He added that since Pia has two children, the company prioritised her for employment. "Additionally, financial assistance has been provided as announced by the road transport and bridges adviser," he said.
On Sunday (26 October), Abul Kalam Azad died on the spot when a bearing pad, used to prevent vibration during train operations, came loose and fell on him in the Farmgate area.
Following the accident, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan announced that Kalam's family would receive Tk5 lakh in compensation and a job would be arranged for one family member at the metro rail.
Authorities later launched a probe into the accident.
