Meghna Petroleum's Mofizur Rahman appointed acting MD of Padma Oil

Md Mofizur Rahman, general manager (operations) of Meghna Petroleum Limited (MPL), a subsidiary of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), has been appointed as the acting managing director (MD) of Padma Oil Company Limited (POCL).
The appointment was confirmed through an official order signed by BPC Secretary Shahina Sultana today (17 May).
According to the order, Rahman will serve in this capacity until further notice.
Mofizur Rahman is expected to take over responsibilities from BPC Secretary Shahina Sultana, who has been temporarily handling the role of managing director at POCL following a sudden leadership vacancy.
The position became vacant after the former MD of Padma Oil, Md Abdus Sobhan, tendered his resignation via email from the United States on 14 May. Sobhan had taken leave from 4 to 10 May, citing his wife's illness as the reason for his overseas stay. Despite the end of his leave period, he did not return to resume his duties.
Questions about his whereabouts were raised during the POCL board meeting on 13 May. Board Chairman and former secretary Zafar Ullah Khan inquired about Sobhan's absence. In response, Company Secretary Ali Absar informed the board that the MD was still abroad on leave. The situation sparked intense discussion within the board.
The following day, Sobhan submitted his resignation by email. He is currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for alleged irregularities in the marketing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and bitumen.
