Measures being taken to ensure MP candidates' security: DMP chief
DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali's assurance comes in the wake of yesterday’s attack on Osman Hadi, an aspiring independent MP candidate from Dhaka-8.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has said security measures are being taken to ensure the safety of people who will contest the upcoming general election.
Speaking to journalists after the 42nd annual general meeting of the Retired Police Officers Welfare Association at the Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium in the capital today (13 December), the DMP chief responded to questions about their security in the wake of yesterday's gun attack on Osman Hadi, an aspiring independent MP candidate from Dhaka-8.
Sazzat said, "We are taking necessary measures to ensure the security of the candidates."
Regarding the identification of those involved in the attack on Osman Hadi, spokesperson for the Inqilab Mancha, the DMP commissioner said, "We are looking for the prime suspect. It has not yet been 24 hours. Hopefully, we will be able to detect and identify them."
When asked how many people might have been involved in the incident, he said it is too early to comment. "At this moment, nothing can be said for sure. We are trying to trace the main suspect," he added.
Asked whether any suspect has already been identified, the DMP commissioner said, "We cannot disclose any names at this stage. We are searching for the suspect and have sought cooperation from the public. Hopefully, we will be able to detect those involved soon."
