Man 'beaten to death' over alleged theft in Gazipur

A man has reportedly been beaten to death over allegations of theft in the Chapulia area of Gazipur city.
Police recovered the body of Shahriar Rahman Heaven, 34, son of Humayun Kabir of Chapulia, this morning (15 June) and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Sadar Metro Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan.
"Shahriar had multiple cases filed against him, including theft. His body was found with hands and feet tied, bearing visible signs of physical assault," he added.
Family members claim Shahriar had a longstanding land dispute with local rivals.
Yesterday evening (14 June), the rivals allegedly abducted him from his home, accused him of theft, and brutally beat him after tying his hands and feet. He reportedly died from the assault early this morning.
OC Mehedi said an investigation was underway, and legal action would be taken once a formal complaint is lodged by the family.
