Police have arrested a man who allegedly killed his own mother and younger brother in the Bhujpur Union of Fatikchhari upazila.
The arrested identified as Mohammad Yasin, 45, was apprehended from the Kanchannagar area of the same upazila last night (7 April).
Confirming the arrest today (8 April), Bhujpur police station Officer-in-Charge Mahbubul Haque said, "The accused was taken into custody last night and produced before the court today."
The incident occurred on the morning of 3 April at the Fakira Bon area in Ward-4 of Bhujpur Union. According to police and locals, a dispute over storing leaves in sacks escalated violently. In a fit of rage, Yasin attacked his younger brother Md Masum, 35 and mother Julekha Khatun, 60, with a sharp weapon, leaving them critically injured.
Local residents rushed the injured to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where both succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
As news of Yasin's arrest spread, angry locals gathered outside Bhujpur Police Station, demanding justice.
The police, supported by army personnel, later transferred the accused to court under heavy security.
