Malaysia labour market may see breakthrough by July, says minister
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury described the tour as highly successful and productive
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has said that positive developments regarding the Malaysia labour market may emerge by July, adding that the outcomes of the prime minister's recent visit to Malaysia will begin to become visible from next month.
He made the remarks today (24 June) after inspecting various ongoing activities of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment at Sylhet Osmani International Airport.
Referring to the Malaysia visit, the minister described the tour as highly successful and productive.
"The sincere cooperation extended by the Malaysian government and people, along with high-level discussions between the two countries, has resulted in positive progress in several areas, including the labour market and manpower export," he said.
Expressing optimism, he said Malaysia's human resources minister and home minister are expected to visit Bangladesh by July, and the public will witness tangible progress on a number of ongoing issues.
Regarding ongoing operations at Osmani International Airport, the minister said several initiatives have been undertaken to improve service standards for expatriate workers.
"We are placing special emphasis on ensuring luggage management, support services and primary healthcare facilities for elderly, sick and special-needs passengers," he said.
He also said necessary measures are being taken in coordination with relevant agencies to ensure that expatriates do not face any form of harassment or inconvenience at the airport.
The minister further said that, considering the large number of expatriates using Sylhet Osmani International Airport, plans have been taken to strengthen security arrangements, ensure the safe movement of passengers travelling on night flights and establish a dedicated Kids' Zone for children at the airport.
"These initiatives will be implemented through coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment", he added.
