MA Salam president, Ataur Rahman secretary for Awami League’s Chattogram district north
MA Salam got 223 votes, while his nearest rival ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury got 129 votes

MA Salam and Ataur Rahman Ata have been elected president and general secretary respectively for the Chattogram district north unit of Bangladesh Awami League.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of the new leadership following a voting in the city's Kazir Deori International Convention Centre on Saturday evening.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, took part in the Awami League's Chattogram District North Unit's triennial conference today.
MA Salam got 223 votes, while his nearest rival ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury got 129 votes.
On the other hand, Sheikh Ataur Rahman Ata defeated his nearest rival Gias Uddin by 42 votes to become the general secretary. Ata got 196 votes.
Earlier in the morning, Awami League Presidium Member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the conference on the Laldighi field in the city.
Later, the council session began at the International Convention Centre in the afternoon.
