Locals of Faridpur's Krishnanagar union formed a human chain and staged a demonstration demanding due civic amenities since it was included in the newly formed municipality through demarcation of the union's boundary in 2018.

Locals brought out a procession and reached Faridpur Press Club premises at 12pm today (25 September), where they held a human chain demanding the amenities be restored.

During the demonstration, the locals said that the newly drafted boundary of Faridpur municipality includes the old union parishad area, including the administrative building.

Speakers at the event said, they are not getting any benefits despite living in a municipality. Farmers are paying more taxes, water bills have also increased.

The municipality centre is situated 20km from Krishnanagar, which has exacerbated the sufferings of the people, complained speakers.

They demanded to either create a city corporation or revert back to the union parishad system.

Later, locals took the procession to the DC Office, where they submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Ramananda Pal.

Among those present at the event were Conveners of Krishnanagar Union Parishad Reinstatement Movement Committee Md Farid Sheikh, Islam Master, Md Ayub Sardar, Md Lutfar Sardar, Md Ishaq Molla, Md Billal Matubbar, Md A Sattar Master, Md Titu Mia, Md Yunus Molla, M. Akhtar Sheikh, Amjad Hussain, Abdul Wahab, Md Samad Khan and others.

Faridpur municipality was established in 1869. On 20 December 2020, an election was held in the 27 wards of the newly demarcated municipality area. Prior to that, the municipality had seven wards.

The total area in the new municipality is 66.54 square kilometres. On 10 October 2016, the 38 Mouza's of nine unions under Faridpur's Sadar upazila were included in the municipality.

On 5 December 2017, the extension of the municipality was approved. On 7 January 2018, a gazette notification was published in this regard.
