Lightning strike kills youth in Cox's Bazar

A youth was killed when a thunderbolt struck him while working at a shrimp farm in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria upazila this morning (30 May).
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Emon, 24, the son of late Abu Taher.
"The incident occurred around 7am in the South Matha area of Badarkhali union," Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Atikur Rahman told The Business Standard.
"Emon was digging soil with several other labourers at a private shrimp farm when lightning struck him amid heavy rain. He was rushed to the local health complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead," said the UNO.
Following legal procedures, the body was handed over to the victim's family, he added.
