Light Trap Tech – A new technology invented to detect insects in vegetable fields
The government has distributed free trap lights among the farmers.
Abu Taher, a marginal farmer of Purbachandrapur, said that a new technology has been invented to control pests that attacks pumpkins and other vegetables.
To control the pests, they used different medicines last year which affects the environment but now they are controlling the pest with the light trap embedded with modern technology.
The correspondent found that a light trap technology is being used to detect the presence of insects at different vegetable fields such as pumpkin, bitter gourd in Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni.

Farmers are happy with the discovery of the new technology as they can easily detect and kill the pests.
Abu Taher further said that they have got good yield of crops this season as they followed the advice of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE).
Local Deputy Agricultural Officer Abdullah Al Maruf (block supervisor) said that one kind of pest, locally known as Machi poka, attacks tender vegetables and hatches eggs on the pumpkin. Big pests grow in the pumpkin.
Rafiul Islam, Agricultural Officer of Daganbhuiyan upazila, told the correspondent that they have raised awareness among the farmers about the harmful effects of the pests on the vegetable at Purbo Chandpur village and adjoined areas in this upazila.
He further said, by trapping the pests with light, farmers can easily control the pests without chemical.
DAE Director said, “We have identified some of the pests such as BPH, GLH, Majra Poka, and battle. Some pests are harmful for crops and some other are helpful.
He also said that the government has taken some projects through National Agricultural Technology Programme in Noakhali’s Feni, Laxmipur’s Chandpur and Chattogram.
The government has distributed free trap lights among the farmers.
DAE official sources said that during the test of light trap technology, the agriculturists and local farmers found some insects such as green leaf hoppers, white leaf hoppers, short horn grasshoppers and black beetle and neutral insects in the vegetable fields.
