Liberation war ministry was asked not to publish names of 996 people: Kamal

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs was asked not to publish the names of 996 people but the ministry did not listen to it.
"The list that was sent to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs was not a list of Razakars, Al-Badr and Al-Shams," Kamal said while addressing a press conference at his ministry.
"This was the list of the people who had been primarily accused in cases under the Collaborators Order, 1972," he added.

"It will be checked how freedom fighters' names were included on the list," the home minister said.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was upset about the published list. She has ordered for quick publication of the corrected list of the Razakars," he noted.
On December 15, the liberation war ministry published the names of 10,789 Razakars who had collaborated with the Pakistani occupation forces during the 1971 Liberation War and committed crimes against humanity.
The names of five people, including that of International Crimes Tribunal counsel Ghulam Arif Tipu, are on the list of Razakars.
The other freedom fighters wrongfully included on the list of Razakars are Advocate Mohsin Ali, Advocate Abdus Salam, former deputy commissioner Abdur Rauf and police official SS Abu Talib.
