Legal notice issued demanding reinstatement of Amartya Roy's candidacy in Jucsu polls
Speaking to The Business Standard, Amartya said, “We will defend the administration’s decision to cancel my candidacy through legal means.”

A legal notice has been sent to Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities and the Jucsu Election Commission, seeking the reinstatement of Amartya Roy John's candidacy for vice-president (VP) post in the upcoming Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu) election.
The notice was issued today (7 September) by senior lawyer Barrister Sara Hossain on behalf of Amartya, who was contesting from the "Sampritir Oikya" panel.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Amartya said, "Through legal means, we will challenge the administration's decision to cancel my candidacy."
Contacted, Jucsu Chief Election Commissioner Moniruzzaman said, "We are yet to receive any such legal notice. If one is formally submitted, we will consult with our legal adviser before deciding the next course of action."
Yesterday, the Election Commission announced the cancellation of Amartya's candidacy and excluded his name from the voters' list.
In a notice published on the university website, the commission stated that following a decision from the competent authority and under sections 4 and 8 of the Jucsu constitution, Amartya has been declared ineligible both to vote and to contest.
Consequently, his name was dropped from the lists of voters and candidates.
Teachers' Network condemns cancellation of Amartya's candidacy
Meanwhile, "University Teachers' Network" has strongly criticised the cancellation of Amartya Roy's candidacy.
In a statement, the network said, "The long-awaited election had raised hopes for building a democratic Bangladesh, but those hopes are being thwarted administratively. The decision to cancel Amartya Roy's candidacy has tainted the electoral process and is part of an ongoing administrative conspiracy."
