Police must register cases over cognizable crimes, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali said today (21 April), adding that no such crimes can be hidden.

"The mysteries of such cases must be revealed and the real criminals must be brought under the law," he said while addressing DMP police officers at the monthly crime review meeting for March 2025 at the Rajarbagh Bangladesh Police Auditorium.

The DMP commissioner said in a bid to prevent crime from happening, preventive police activities must be increased.

"Because you are working sincerely, the number of muggings has decreased to a large extent. Everyone must be vigilant so that it does not happen again," he said.

He emphasised resolving cases and increasing the number of warrants.

"We must perform our professional duties with utmost humility. Under no circumstances should we behave in an unprofessional or suspicious manner," the DMP chief also said.

He thanked all members of the DMP for sincerely performing their duties in maintaining law and order during the holy month of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Bengali New Year.

Speaking about the Detective Branch unit, he said the DB should increase the number of arrests by identifying criminals based on intelligence information.

"The OC of each police station of DMP should investigate the cases. The police station patrol team should coordinate with the security guards of each building in the police station area to perform their duties.

"If they have information about any crime, they should provide that information to the police and work accordingly," added Sazzat.

Also speaking at the event, DMP's Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam said, "Police duties should be performed with the highest appreciation for the people's demands. Drug recovery and warrants should be increased further. Block raids should be conducted regularly to arrest identified criminals."

Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md Faruk Hossain presented and reviewed the overall crime situation for March 2025, including robbery, dacoity, theft, burglary, murder, accidental death, road accidents, women and child abuse, rape, recovery of drugs and weapons, and various cases.

At this time, the DMP commissioner gave various instructions to the police members present.

At the programme, the DMP commissioner awarded officers of various ranks of DMP in various categories in recognition of their good work in maintaining law and order, crime control and public safety in Dhaka Metropolitan City in March.
