No sabotage threat in Dhaka centring 5 August: DB chief
DMP has heightened security across the capital ahead of the 'July Mass Uprising Day' on 5 August despite no specific threats of sabotage.
There is no specific information regarding any planned sabotage in the capital centring the "July Mass Uprising Day" on 5 August, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch (DB) chief Md Shafiqul Islam said today (4 August).
Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre, he said that law enforcement remains on high alert and has taken necessary security measures for all programmes scheduled in Dhaka.
"As of now, we do not have any specific intelligence on sabotage centring 5 August. However, given the significance of the day, the DMP has taken all necessary security preparations. Adequate security will be ensured around the various programmes taking place," the DB chief added.

Asked about the clashes between different political parties in the capital today, Shafiqul said, "Political parties may have differences of opinion, which can sometimes lead to clashes. However, it would be incorrect to link these incidents with sabotage."
Regarding the recent recovery of several bomb-like objects in different parts of the country, he noted that the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit is leading the investigation, while the DB is conducting a shadow probe.
"There might be malicious attempts to create instability, spread panic among the public, or portray Bangladesh as a militancy-linked state. We are investigating these matters with utmost importance," he added.
Reassuring residents of the capital, the DB chief said, "The DMP is always on alert. We have adequate preparations to tackle any situation, and the police are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of city dwellers."
