Launch operations in Barishal district remained suspended since Thursday morning due to the incessant rainfall triggered by the low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

The Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) authorities suspended the launch services from early Thursday.

The continuous rain since early Thursday morning has disrupted normal life in Barishal.

The river ports have been asked to hoist warning signal no 2 due to the bay depression.

Low-lying areas of the Barishal city were submerged, forcing many residents to stay indoors and adding to their distress.

The suspension of launch services has effectively cut off Barishal's river connectivity with nearby island district Bhola and other areas.

Masud Rana Rubel, a meteorologist at the Barishal Meteorological Office, said Barishal recorded 27 millimeters of rainfall since Thursday morning.

Rain is expected to continue throughout the day, he added.
