Launch of 'Postal Vote BD' app for expatriates pushed back to 18 November
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the commission will also publish the final voter list on the same day, and therefore, both events will be held together.
The Election Commission (EC) has rescheduled the launch of the Postal Vote BD app for expatriates to 18 November, instead of the previously announced date of 16 November.
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the new date while speaking to reporters at the EC office in Agargaon today (9 November), adding that the change was made considering that 16 November falls on a Sunday, which is a weekly holiday in many countries.
He said the commission will also publish the final voter list on the same day, and therefore, both events will be held together.
"The specific time of the launch will be announced later," he said.
Responding to questions from journalists, the secretary said, "We are fulfilling our responsibilities in light of the law. Those who have some issues related to registration can apply for an amendment if they wish. Whether the commission will consider their application is a matter for a subsequent decision."
On the appeal process, he said applications must be submitted through the Secretariat to the senior secretary or the secretary of the EC. There is no fixed deadline for filing an appeal.
Regarding rejected applications, Akhtar Ahmed said, "Some applications were rejected under specific conditions. If anyone disagrees with that decision, they can apply for reconsideration."
On political dialogue, he said the EC will determine a schedule once the Code of Conduct for candidates and political parties is published in the gazette.
Commenting on political rallies in Key Point Installation (KPI) areas, he said "KPI is a sensitive area. Everyone must comply with the law and security regulations there."
In response to a question about comments by Amjanatar Dal leader Tarek Rahman, the secretary said registration cannot be granted without an appeal.
He stated that if any programme is organised without registration, the commission will consider the matter legally.
The secretary further said, "We want all political parties and stakeholders to participate in the election process within the legal framework."
