Land minister shifted to BMU in Dhaka for advanced treatment
Specialist doctors in Rajshahi had been monitoring the minister's condition, and the decision to transfer him to BMU Hospital was taken on their advice.
Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has been transferred from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) to Bangladesh Medical University in Dhaka for advanced treatment after being hospitalised with anaemia.
He was taken to Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi by Rajshahi-3 lawmaker Advocate Shofiqul Haque Milon at around 7:30am today (22 October) and flown to Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight that departed at 8:45am.
Milon told the media that the minister's haemoglobin levels had fallen, possibly due to issues with the use of medication prescribed during his recent treatment in Singapore. As a result, he had required blood transfusions over the past few days.
He added that the minister had attended a public programme during the prime minister's recent visit to Rajshahi despite being unwell, which had put physical strain on him.
Specialist doctors in Rajshahi had been monitoring the minister's condition, and the decision to transfer him to BMU Hospital was taken on their advice. He will receive treatment under the supervision of specialist physicians in Dhaka.
Nazmul Haque Diken, the minister's assistant private secretary (APS), also confirmed that Minu had been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Minu was admitted to RMCH at around 10:30am on yesterday (21 October) after falling ill. He had been receiving treatment in a hospital cabin and was given multiple bags of blood due to anaemia.
In a Facebook post following his hospitalisation, Minu said his blood levels had dropped due to the side effects of medication. He said he had received three bags of blood under medical supervision.
"By the infinite mercy of Almighty Allah, I am now well, Alhamdulillah," he wrote, seeking prayers from people in Rajshahi and across the country for his recovery. He also expressed hope that he would recover soon and return to serving the people.
Following news of his hospitalisation, political and social leaders, doctors, and people from different walks of life visited him at the hospital to inquire about his health.
Milon also prayed for the minister's speedy recovery and sought prayers from people across the country.
