“The gaps between what the reform commission has proposed and what the labour ministry is doing will be filled up. The recommendations by the reform commission will be implemented, maintaining the economic and social situation of the country,” said Sakhawat, also the shipping adviser

The Ministry of Labour and Employment will form an internal committee to implement the recommendations made by the Labour Reform Commission, Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain said today (23 April).
The committee will have an additional secretary of the ministry as its chief, Sakhawat said during a press briefing on the report submitted by the reform commission at the meeting room of the shipping ministry at the secretariat.
"The gaps between what the reform commission has proposed and what the labour ministry is doing will be filled up. The recommendations by the reform commission will be implemented, maintaining the economic and social situation of the country," said Sakhawat, also the shipping adviser.
"The ministry will draft a list of what recommendations will be implemented in the future. Besides, an academic analysis is going on regarding the labour sector. The ministry is discussing the matter with a university," Adviser Sakhawat added.
Replying to a question, Sakhawat further said, "We won't sit idle. We will start the work tomorrow. If we keep December in mind, the work will start in November. The recommendations which can be implemented will be implemented quickly."
"The workers need a wage board. I have heard that some tannery owners have increased the salaries of their staff, while some others did not do it. We will work on the whole matter," the adviser also said.
Chairman of Labour Reform Commission Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed and Labour Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman, among others, were present at the meeting.
